pathos-laden Theivam illai…even more so! That leaves us with
just two more songs in the soundtrack and that’s where Yuvan scores big
time! Iragai pole is vintage Yuvan, if that word can be used
for such a young composer! It has everything one expects from the man –

Paniye is no doubt impeccably arranged, but it drops its bland opening tune only as it progresses into the second interlude and charanam, into that brilliant, Ilayaraja’esque soundscape! Pachai kili is strangely banal, but, with a Yuvan-styled enthusiasm, Aathadi offers a gorgeous melody with Naveen at its helm! More than functional music by Thaman, who may have been constrained by the film maker’s imagination.

Yuvan’s own vocals in Oh Shala is just what one expects from the composer – a soft, lilting tune, played with an interesting rhythm that vanishes selectively. Oru vaanavillin pakkathilae is a weak, trite tune and Udit’s Tamil mauling only makes it worse. Vijay Yesudas proves he’s the perfect choice for the deeply reflective lyrics in Enna enna, even though the tune is hackneyed, while Anbulla Sandhya sounds like its wistful companion with a forced, filmy melancholy.
